While we might be excited to meet our new patients and get them started on the path to their perfect smile, we understand that becoming a new patient at Acorn Dental or at any dental clinic can feel a little intimidating.

Surveys show that over 60% of adults feel some sort of dental-related fear, and this nervousness can be very high when you begin to see a new dentist you’re not yet familiar with. For many new patients, it’s the fear of the unknown that causes anxiety to set in.

In order to combat this and make our new patients feel as comfortable as possible, we’re going to outline what you can expect as a new patient at Acorn Dental.

After you’ve decided to become a new Acorn Dental patient, the first step is to get in touch with us, so we can schedule a new patient evaluation to get you started.

We think booking appointments should be as easy as possible for everyone involved. You can either give us a call to book your appointment directly, or you can visit our virtual appointment booking page to request a visit.

On this page, you’ll fill out a simple form with your contact information, as well as your preferred date of visit and preferred time. We encourage you to include at least four appointment times that will work with your schedule, ordered by preference. There is an optional notes section on this form where you can include any other important information. Feel free to include if you’re a new patient looking to book an initial exam.

After we’ve received your form, we’ll give you a call to confirm a date and time.

Plan to come in early to fill out new patient forms.

We encourage new patients to come in at least 10 minutes early to fill out new patient forms, check insurance, and otherwise get signed up as a new patient in our system.

In an effort to help our new patients save time during their first visit, we offer a printable PDF version of our new patient form right on our website; you’ll find this right above our website’s menu. Please fill out this form as best as you can. We may have other shorter forms for you to fill out when you arrive.

First impressions mean a lot, and we make a serious effort to make all of our patients feel welcome in our office, especially new patients we’re meeting for the first time.

At the reception desk, as a new patient at Acorn Dental, you’ll be greeted by Michele, our office manager, and Alexa, our patient coordinator. From there, you’ll get checked in as a patient, get your forms filled out, and wait for your appointment.

Acorn Dental is proud to offer CareCredit as an alternative financing option for patients that need assistance.

You can either sign up for CareCredit directly on their website, or we can assist you in office for an emergency. However, we do encourage new patients to sign up before they start their treatment plan to ensure they’re accepted prior to us charging.

You’ll notice that, unlike many dentists, Dr. Van Istendal isn’t dedicated to one single type of dentistry. Instead, Dr. Van Istendal focuses on offering a variety of services to enable patients to get the majority of their dental work done in one office.

While outside referrals may be required under special circumstances, we are happy to say that the average patient will be able to stick with us for all the procedures they need. This is a huge stress relief for patients, especially those that feel nervous with new dentists and dental offices.

This is a comprehensive evaluation that will allow you to meet Dr. Van Istendal and the team and will give you a chance to speak with him about any concerns you have with your teeth or any imperfections you’re interested in fixing. This evaluation will also give Dr. Van Istendal a chance to completely evaluate your current oral health and pinpoint issues that need to be resolved.

Once your initial evaluation is complete, Dr. Van Istendal will help you figure out a treatment plan that first addresses any serious issues with your oral health. After you leave the evaluation room, you’ll see the front desk once more and be able to schedule your next appointment.
